As a result of the increasing demand for more efficient, flexible and creative lighting solutions in recent years, LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lighting technologies have been evolving tremendously. Offering a vastly convincing set of advantages including low energy consumption, high durability as well as the ability to generate a huge spectrum of different colors, LED presents a viable alternative to conventional light sources and has become an attractive medium for numerous industries.

1. ECONOMIC ADVANTAGES

Consuming only 10 – 20% of the power required by regular lighting sources, LEDs are very energy efficient. Whilst, for instance, a regular traffic light containing an incandescent light bulb draws 150W, the application of LEDs would reduce the energy consumption to 10W. This not only allows for tremendous energy cost savings, but also for a reduction in the environmental impact of artificial lighting which has become a worldwide concern in recent years.
In contrast to conventional light bulbs which generally expire after 5,000 hours, the lifetime of LEDs ranges from 15,000 to more than 35,000 hours - this is equal to 4 years of continuous operation. Consequently, replacement costs of LEDs are reduced to a minimum for the customer.

Based on its construction LEDs are very durable; while regular light sources are very fragile and sensitive to shocks and vibrations, the LEDs’ encasement in high strength optical grade resin makes the lights highly resistant to outside influences. This robustness significantly reduces maintenance costs and makes LEDs highly suitable for hard-to-reach and outdoor installations.
With their energy efficiency, long lifetime, and high durability LEDs do not only operate on an environmentally friendly basis, but furthermore reduce costs significantly. Despite the fact that the initial cost of LED bulbs is higher than that of incandescent or halogen lighting, the long term savings certainly pay off.
